This handmade music stand desk has the kind of spectacular wood I’m always looking for. I found the long plank a small, specialty lumber supplier. I’ve used a bit of it in other projects, but still have enough for one or two more music stands. The photo doesn’t quite capture the brilliance of the figure.
It is difficult to see the book-match joint in this handmade music stand desk. I carved the F-holes, as one sees on a violin, into the stunning, swirling grain of lumber. I’ve hand-rubbed two coats of finish into it and it’ll need a few more. I’m working on the rest of the cherry stand, which will nicely compliment the desk. The medallion with inlaid brass on the back side is equally dramatic.
Because the timber is so large I’ll be able to make several more nice pieces using it, when it fits the piece. If you are interested in your own music stand with some stunning wood, start a conversation here.
